Grant Writer/Development Associate

The Grant Writer/Development Associate, under the supervision of the Grant Manager, will contribute to the success of Men Can Stop Rape’s fundraising efforts by identifying and recommending funding opportunities, as well as by drafting funding requests, grant reports, and other development communications as assigned. The position will focus primarily on funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporations. Secondarily, the occupant of this position may also assist with individual donor efforts as needed.

This position works most closely with the Grant Manager but also interacts with program, communications, and finance departments, and with the Executive Director and Deputy Director. This is a supporting position within Development and duties will be performed primarily in the office.

Summary of Essential Duties:

    • Research and identify appropriate funding opportunities from grant-making foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other appropriate institutions to support the programs of Men Can Stop Rape.
    • Provide timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements, and procedures.
    • In accordance with grant requirements, draft assigned letters of inquiry, proposals/applications to current and selected prospective funders, as well as grant reports. Collect and organize all necessary attachments.
    • Draft other assigned development communications such as acknowledgment letters to grant funders, as well as to individual donors as needed; stewardship communications such as informal updates to current funders; and cultivation communications to prospective funders.
    • May support periodic fundraising events.
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
    • Carry out other development-supporting duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree;
    • At least two years of prior experience in Development preferred;
    • Knowledge of grant application process and writing of proposals;
    • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple responsibilities and tasks/projects effectively  under deadline pressure;
    • Excellent English writing, editing, proofreading, reading, research, communications, strategic thinking, organizational, and analytical skills;
    • Ability to synthesize and incorporate compelling data into funding requests and grant reports;
    • Strong attention to detail;
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a small staff office, to work independently, and to be guided.
