Nigel Okunubi is a native Washingtonian and attended DC Public Schools. Upon graduating, Nigel was selected to participate in AmeriCorps’ Public Allies-DC a national service learning and leadership training program. Nigel would later serve 10 months in the Americorps program and completd over 1500 hours community service in cities across the country. Nigel has also served in volunteer, consultant, program coordination and directorship capacities with many reputable local and national non-profit organizations such as: The Empower Program, The Good Shepherd Teen Learning Center (TLC), Aspen Youth Experience (AYE), College Summit, The Fannie Mae Foundation and Hispanic Heritage Foundation- all of which promote youth leadership, violence prevention, or work with “at-risk” youth. In July 2007, Nigel founded a volunteer-based entrepreneurship program called The Adams Morgan Youth Leadership Academy (AMYLA) in the Adams Morgan community where he grew up. In Nigel’s new role as Director of Youth Development with Men Can Stop Rape, Nigel will be largely responsible for oversight of The Men of Strength (MOST) Clubs. Nigel resides in Washington, DC with his 12-year-old son. |
