Men Can Stop Rape is happy to announce that social workers can now receive 19.5 NASW continuing education units for attending Men Can Stop Rape’s “Engaging Men for Social Workers” comprehensive training on working with boys and men to prevent violence against women.
The first training is right around the corner, March 14-16 in Washington, DC. The cost is $600 per person. “Engaging Men for Social Workers Training” is a brand-new offering from Men Can Stop Rape, a national leader in working with men and boys of all ages to play a pro-active role in ending violence against women. The training speaks to the contexts in which social workers operate, the many potential ways they can engage men and boys, and is applicable for community practice, clinical social work and much more. The training teaches through exploration of theory, interactive group exercises, role-playing, and multi-media presentations.For more than 15 years Men Can Stop Rape has offered the most comprehensive trainings available on engaging men to help end violence against women and has equipped thousands of professionals, educators and many others in working with men to prevent gender-based violence and improve their lives through healthier understandings of masculinity. MCSR trainings prepare participants with the skills necessary to motivate men to take a more active role in challenging attitudes and behaviors that support rape and other forms of men's violence against women. This training is for social workers who engage with boys and men in a wide variety of contexts, including: • Elementary, middle and high schools • Mental health treatment facilities application • Juvenile and adult justice and correctional systems • Sexual assault and domestic violence agencies and coalitions • Community-based organizations • Substance abuse prevention and treatment • The US military and veterans’ affairs The training equips the participant with: • A theoretical framework and introduction to social change theory as it relates to preventing men's violence against women • A comprehensive understanding of a broad-based approach to primary prevention and its application • Valuable tactics for public speaking around these issues • Effective strategies for working with and engaging men and boys • The ability to better recognize the intersections between different types of oppressions (i.e. racism, classism, and heterosexism) • Thorough understanding of bystander intervention and how to prepare men and boys to be active bystanders and to engage their peers as well
