“FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE" TRAINING
JULY 21-23, 2010
REGISTER ONLINE NOW
Every day in our communities, men of all ages are making choices based on their understanding of what it means to be a “real” man - choices that contribute to devastating public health issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, teen pregnancy, and the spread of STDs and HIV/AIDS. What men need are healthier, alternative visions of masculinity so that they can make healthier choices – but how do we reach them?
Attend Men Can Stop Rape’s three day training, “From Theory to Practice,” and learn the theory behind our award-winning program the Men of Strength Club, our Strength Trainings, and “My Strength” public awareness campaign that encourage young men to use their strength to create cultures free from violence.
Our 20-25 person trainings feature interactive group exercises, role-playing, multi-media presentations, and thoughtful, in-depth discussions. Our approach is based on the social ecological model, advocated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a framework for the primary prevention of gender-based violence.
LEARN HOW TO:
*Apply effective and positive primary prevention principles for engaging men.
*Recognize rape culture and the "dominant stories" and "counterstories" of masculinity
*Approach the primary prevention of gender-based violence from a public health perspective.
*Utilize programs, services, and products to address the four levels of the social ecological model (individual, relationship, community, and society).
*Build individual, organizational, and community capacity for prevention of violence against women.
THIS TRAINING IS FOR:
*School and university staff
*Youth service providers
*Rape crisis and domestic violence service providers
*Community organizations
*Healthcare professionals
*Law enforcement
*Military SARCs
