2010 Solutions Through Film: Black History Month Film Festival
After a month's delay due to inclement weather, MOST Club finally launched its 8th Annual Black History Month Festival, Solutions Through Film on March 6, 2010. With a theater packed full of engaged young people and professionals, we can say the event was truly a successful one! The festival featured two films, Say it Loud! and Men II Boys. We'd like to thank everyone who came out and made this event possible, including the young men who came from all over Washington, DC and Maryland to participate. We were pleased to have Men II Boys filmmaker, Janks Morton, present for a director's Q&A discussion. MOST Club members in attendance came from all wards of Washington, DC, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County; as well as veteran MOST Club members from Temple University, Morgan State University, University of Maryland – College Park, Howard University, and the University of the District of Columbia. Students from Dr. Rayner Brown Academy of Baltimore and Thurgood Marshall Middle School of Prince George's County provided an especially strong middle school perspective never seen before at the event. During the film festival, Coolidge High School senior Michias Zewdu was presented with the first-ever Oscar Micheaux Award for his film “Becoming the Change,” which documented the impact that a visit by President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Vice President Joe Biden had on his school. As part of Between the Notes, Chris Thorne, a veteran MOST Club member and Senior at the Howard University School of Film, presented the award.
