CO-SPONSOR MCSR'S 2009 CONFERENCE

First Annual National Conference on the Primary Prevention of Men’s Violence Against Women
“Men and Women as Allies”
April 14-15, 2009 in Washington, DC

Conference Purpose:

Men Can Stop Rape, Inc.’s (MCSR) First National Conference on the Primary Prevention of Men’s Violence Against Women, “Men and Women as Allies,” will be held April 14‐15, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

As the leading non‐profit organization dedicated to mobilizing male youth to prevent violence against women, Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) has served the international community for over a decade with its Men of Strength (MOST) Club youth programming, Strength Mediaworks public education materials, and Strength Trainings for professionals.

Who Should Attend:
All rape crisis and domestic violence center personnel, educators, youth‐serving professionals, health care professionals, mental and behavioral health providers, social workers, health professional students, health policy leaders, activists, advocates for victims of domestic violence and others.

Conference Goal:
Co‐sponsored by 35 international SA/DV coalitions, youth‐serving organizations, and service providers, “Men and Women as Allies” hopes to strengthen the field of primary violence prevention by highlighting successful partnerships between direct service providers and those who work in primary violence prevention.

The conference will include fourteen workshops, keynote addresses from national and international leaders, federal agency briefings, and a “Welcome to Washington” evening reception.

Workshop topics include
• “How Men Speak Out Against Violence Against Women”
• “How Men Can Support Survivors”
• “Can Women and Men Play the Same Role in Primary Prevention?”
• “How Men and Women Can Work Together to End Domestic and Sexual Violence”
• “The Importance of Redefining Strength and Masculinity”

Co-Sponsorship:
Co‐Sponsorship requires no financial commitment. Co‐sponsors name will be placed on conference letterhead and promotional materials; in turn they will be asked to serve on the conference planning e‐committee, recruit attendees, lead a federal agency briefing, and interact with the media.
